In the spring of 2012 I walked the length of the seven islands that make up the archipelago of the Canary Islands. They are Lanzarote, Fuerteventua, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro. The journey was just over 400 kilometres and via JustGiving I managed to raise a total of £3118.96.
Around the time a number of friends suggested I document it, it seemed like a good idea – if only for posterity. As far as I know, I’m the first to do this. If not, as I can’t find anything by anyone else, I’m certainly the first to document it!
I’m no Hemingway, so don’t expect a great literary work. This is my take on the journey, some of our experiences as expats, along with some other observations and comment. Although it’s in part travelogue, it’s certainly no tour guide or walking guidebook. Probably not for the tourist unless they are interested to know what ‘real life’ is like, or those thinking of one day making the move themselves and haven’t yet removed the rose tinted glasses. Did I really just try and dissuade people from buying it? 🙂
I hope not, all I’m trying to say is, don’t expect it to be anything less than my honest view. I’m not the type to sugar coat life….
